NICS was a major participant in the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE), a five year, $110M National Science Foundation project. As such, numerous NICS staff held key leadership positions in the project, including leading the Operations component, one of six major functional areas of the project.

The XSEDE project ended on August 31, 2022. NSF’s successor to XSEDE, ACCESS, began on September 1, 2022.
